About winery
After World War I, the island of Vis was under Italian rule, followed by the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. In 1941, the Italians reoccupied the island but left soon after their capitulation in 1943, when Vis came under the control of Yugoslav partisans. During the war, the island was a strategic point with an Allied airfield used for attacks on German-occupied territories. At that time, locals Franka and Jure traded their homemade Plavac Mali wine with British soldiers for food, symbolically connecting the island’s history with its wine. Today, the winery carries on this tradition with an impressive portfolio of 12 wine labels. They produce white wines from indigenous varieties such as Vugava, Kuč, and Bugava, and red wines including Plavac Mali, rosé, and two sparkling wines. Their vineyards are spread across prestigious locations on the island, including Tihobraće Field, Milna, Vošćice, Ljubišće, and Dračevo Field. The winery has received numerous accolades, including several Decanter awards. With an annual production of 100,000 to 150,000 bottles, their offerings also include brandies, liqueurs, and gin. Visitors can enjoy a unique wine-tasting experience in an authentic island setting.
