About winery
The vineyards of Čara, one of the oldest settlements on the island of Korčula, have long been synonymous with perfect conditions for grape cultivation. This picturesque location is defined by an ideal climate, fertile soil, and favorable winds that ventilate the valley. Over half a century ago, Čara was recognized as the cradle of the indigenous Pošip grape variety, which, in 1967, became Croatia’s first white wine to receive protected geographical origin status. In 1987, the Agricultural Cooperative “Pošip” was founded with a mission to preserve and promote this noble variety. Their Pošip, renowned for its status as original and authentic, was scientifically confirmed as indigenous in 2002 through DNA analysis. Today, the Cooperative offers three premium wine labels: the original Pošip, embodying tradition; Marko Polo, also made from Pošip, an exclusive and unique wine; and Rukatac, a fresh and enticing wine perfect for summer days.
