In the heart of Pelješac, where every vine has a story and wine is a way of life, the first Croatian Museum of Viticulture and Winemaking is situated. Opened in 2019 as part of the Agricultural Cooperative Putnikovići, this museum spans over 800 square meters, representing a true treasure trove of Croatia’s rich wine heritage. This unique attraction, encompassing three collections – Home of Winemaking Tradition, Historical Development of Vines, and Wine in the Tradition of Living, is not just a museum but also a tribute to the toil of generations woven into the rocky terrain of Pelješac.

The initiative for its opening originated from the Cooperative’s Management, which began collecting archival exhibits and historical documents about a decade ago. Želimir Bašić, a law graduate and chairman of the evaluation committee, enriched the museum with generous donations of private exhibits, thus supporting the preservation and promotion of the richness of the winemaking heritage.

In addition to the museum section, visitors can enjoy a modern wine tasting room, a souvenir shop, a conference hall, and a model of a traditional limekiln. There are plans for opening a restaurant with local dishes, Dalmatian wine cellar, and an enological park with samples of various grapevine varieties from across Croatia.

This institution is not only a guardian of rich tradition; it elevates the status of grape growers, acknowledging their hard work and immeasurable contribution to the region. By walking through the museum, visitors will not only discover the wonders of the winemaking heritage but also contribute to the sustainability of the local community and economy.

In Pelješac, where every sip of wine carries the soul of the region, this museum becomes an indispensable destination for all wine connoisseurs!
